Tara Woodruff
Project Manager/Policy Specialist
(She/hers)
Tara is a graduate of UC Berkeley where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies with a concentration in Human Rights and Law in Africa and a minor in African American Studies.
Through her degree she studied law, race and human rights; exploring the ways in which various government institutions use power to limit or afford rights to certain groups. She spent her senior year researching education for South Africa’s Coloured population, during both the Apartheid and Post-Apartheid periods, culminating in a thesis examining the creation and maintenance of racial groups to oppress BIPOC.
Tara is excited to take on the role as Policy Strategist and Project Manager at Empower to Change. Tara is dedicated to fighting racism and discrimination in all forms, she is eager to make systemic change to the institutions which perpetuate harm against marginalized peoples. She hopes to use this opportunity to provide a thorough and critical social justice oriented analysis of proposed policy and legislation, especially policy that will impact BIPOC and marginalized communities.
