Why did I start Empower To Change now?
Since graduating from Cal, I had what still feels like the unthinkable honor of working on Capitol Hill and running trailblazing digital campaigns for the Democratic party at just 21 years old.
My positionality and privilege to be a staffer was not something I took lightly as I didn’t know many people who looked like me or members of my family who had the privilege to step foot in those halls.
However I found myself at many instances, farther and farther away from the professional goals I set out to achieve to build on a bold, progressive movement with principles of Restorative Justice and political change in mind.
When my lease ended, I made the difficult decision to move back home, wondering if I’d go back.
I chose to prepare for what most 20 something professionals I knew do in the meantime -- grad school, in addition to pivoting to ad tech.
I hoped my experience in tech would make me more well rounded so one day I could make the change I desperately wanted to make when I moved to D.C. While working in tech has allowed me to grow in many ways professionally, I feel that my work is not done. I realize the time to act is now.
That’s why I’m thrilled to found and launch Empower to Change. More than ever, we need bold and ambitious leadership in the face of such vitriol and hate for our communities.
Empower to Change is 100% devoted to empowering other young individuals like myself and their communities to become involved with and influence the issues that affect us the most, whether it’s through education, DEI work in tech, and civic activism on a local, state, and national level in 2020 and beyond.
I hope you can join me as I build out this passion project of mine.
I’m currently recruiting for roles on our internal team for Campaign Fundraising, Partnerships, and Social Media. #EmpowerToChange
